Internships & Apprenticeships

ROI Upskills Apprenticeships
ROI UpSkill Work & Learn is a modern youth apprenticeship program that gives high school students the opportunity to earn a paycheck, gain career credentials, and take college courses—all while still in school.
Students earn while they learn, gaining real-world experience in high-demand fields while building a pathway into future careers. Serving as the intermediary organization, Regional Opportunity Initiatives facilitates this program in the Indiana Uplands, which offers 2- to 3-year opportunities for students and employers. ROI supports every step of the way—from applications and interviews to placement, training, and ongoing guidance.
WHS has students working as apprentices in fields such as Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Business, and Microelectronics. Ten students are a part of the Microelectronics Academy at NAVSEA Crane.
Internship Program
Washington High School has partnered with local businesses to expand opportunities and better prepare students for college and careers. The program has grown into a community-wide effort that provides students with meaningful, real-world experiences.
The Senior Internship Program gives students a semester-long opportunity to explore careers by spending two class periods each day shadowing professionals and learning directly in the field. Each student is paired with a mentor who provides guidance throughout the experience.
Each year, 25–30 seniors participate in internships across industries including healthcare, veterinary services, automotive, media, finance, public service, ministry, and more. Students gain valuable skills, professional connections, job opportunities, references, and build portfolios that showcase their experience and readiness for the future.
The program’s long-term success reflects the strength of the community, the flexibility of the school, and students’ commitment to exploring their future paths.
